Long-time Friend of William & Mary Rowing, Douglas Turner, passed away on November 8, 2018. Doug was remembered in a great obituary published by The Buffalo News where he had served as the Washington bureau chief. In addition to being a stellar reporter and an Olympic rower, Doug was also a founding member of the Friends of William & Mary Rowing (fka Friends of Williamsburg Rowing), this very non-profit that seeks to promote rowing at the College of William & Mary. From inception of the Friends, Doug worked with a passion and intensity that propelled our organization and rowing at the College forward. This level of dedication continued, long after Doug’s son had graduated from William & Mary and had stepped out of our rowing shells for the last time. In fact, this dedication continued through 2019 when Doug graciously left a bequest to us as part of his estate plan. We are honored to have been blessed with this donation and to have been fortunate enough to work alongside Doug for all of these years. Let’s remember Doug by making W&M rowing as good as he wanted it to be!
