Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax Station Va, has historically been a staple on WMRC’s schedule. Yet in recent years, the duel meets between Liberty and Virginia Tech have made this race impossible to attend. With uncertainty in the scheduling of the Waterfield and Ivy Hill Cups, the Novice Men are capitalizing on the opportunity to squeeze in this highly competitive regatta this Sunday. Unfortunately the other squads can not attend.
Novice Men:
Getting ready for SIRAs later this month, the Novice are racing in two fours. There are 16 other crews entered in this event. The Tribe will face the powerhouse crews of Michigan and UVA, perennial Dad Vail finalists. Also, rowing is La Salle University from Philadelphia, who has shown early speed in this event by winning at the Murphy Cup last week.
This regatta will handle this popular event by racing 3 finals in a row, with the best overall time between all 3 heats as the winner. This is unusual as most larger regattas will do heats and finals for such large events. The first heat for the Tribe is against JMU, UVA, Grand Valley, VCU, and Michigan. The other boat is racing against Maryland, La Salle, VCU, and Michigan. Entries in the third heat are Catholic U, George Mason, UNC, Saint Mary’s, and Carnegie Mellon.
